April 27, 2023 – The Chief Scientist of Québec, together with the scientific directors of the three Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) and the Director of Societal Challenges (DGDS), today announced the list of research grant winners for its societal challenges programs.
For the creativity and entrepreneurship societal challenge, the sixth edition of the intersectoral AUDACE program and the third edition of the International “Québec-Luxembourg” AUDACE program received excellent, bold proposals. After pre-applications were reviewed for relevance and scientific rigour, and interviews were conducted by an intersectoral international committee, eight proposals were selected for funding. These projects will receive a total of over a million dollars in support from the three Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). The Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) will also contribute more than €100,000 to the team selected from Luxembourg.
As for the science and society societal challenge, 21 grants were awarded to citizen science projects as part of the ENGAGEMENT program. Eighteen grants were awarded to support science communication and dialogue with the general public, nine of which were granted under the Researcher Component of the DIALOGUE program and the other nine under the Student Component of the same program, for a total of approximately 1.3 million dollars. By tracking projects funded in previous editions, we’ve already seen the benefits of active citizen participation, particularly through the emergence of new research practices and mobilization of the public around scientific knowledge, promoting democratization of knowledge in Québec.
We’d like to extend our warm congratulations to all the teams that were granted funding. The members of each team, the title of their projects and the amounts granted can be found in the FRQ’s awards and grants recipient list, available on the 2023-2024 competition results page. Conditional upon the allocation of the credits voted by the National Assembly of Québec and the decisions of the boards of directors of the three Fonds, these grants may be modified at any time without notice.
