Advisory Role and CEO of the Fonds de recherche du Québec
In office since June 2026, Québec’s Chief Scientist, Jérôme Dupras, represents the interests of science and research in numerous forums in Québec, Canada, and around the world. Throughout his scientific career, he has established himself as a leading figure in research on ecological economics, biodiversity, and the assessment of ecosystem services. His excellence has been recognized with numerous awards. He also stands out for his scientific entrepreneurship, his commitment to innovation, and his ability to bridge the gap between research, the public sector, and government policy.
His mandates:
- To advise the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie on the development of research and science, advises other members of the Cabinet on any scientific issues that may inform public policy, and issues scientific opinions. Seeks scientific expertise, including that of the Fund’s three sector-specific scientific committees.
- To promote scientific advice at the local, regional, national, and international levels, as well as scientific diplomacy.
- To foster closer ties between science and society and promotes scientific culture and participatory science.
- To promote ethical and responsible conduct in research.
- To work to ensure Québec’s standing and influence elsewhere in Canada and abroad, and to develop international research partnerships.
Serves as CEO of the Fonds de recherche du Québec: leads the Fund, proposes major strategic directions to the Board of Directors, promotes the next generation of researchers, and develops cross-sectoral research, particularly in relation to major societal challenges (demographic changes and an aging population; sustainable development and climate change, including AI and digital technology; creativity and entrepreneurship; and the science-society dialogue).
