At the meeting on April 7, 2021, the board of directors of the Fonds de recherche du Québec — Nature et technologies (FRQNT) approved $65.3 in awards and grants (including partnerships) for 2021–2022.
The FRQNT will hand out 221 new masters awards, 237 new doctoral awards and 55 new postdoctoral awards. Taking into consideration its previous commitments, the agency will dedicate a total of $19M to research training. With the credits for new researchers and college researchers (nearly $3.4M), a total sum of $22.4M has been set aside for emerging and career researchers.
With regard to research projects and groups, the FRQNT will invest $31.7M, including $17.1M in 35 funded strategic clusters, the AGORA platforms, the innovation networks and two new innovation catalysts (college-university cluster), $8.4M in research projects (teams, Visage municipal, Prisme, Dialogue and Engagement) and $2.3M in international initiatives. In addition, the FRQNT will contribute $3.9M to initiatives to tackle major societal challenges (Audace intersectoral program, Audace International Québec-Luxemburg, platform to fund programs for intersectoral research on aging – call for solutions and Living Lab). These amounts account for submitted applications and those the FRQNT had already committed to funding.
