The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), is proud to join the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, Institute of Genetics, Institute of Infection and Immunity, Institute of Indigenous Peoples Health, Institute of Aging, Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, Institute of Gender and Health and Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, in partnership with Diabetes Canada, Génome Québec, JDRF Canada, Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC) and Mitacs, to collaborate on the Team Grants: Diabetes Mechanisms and Translational Solutions program.
The Team Grants: Diabetes Mechanisms and Translational Solutions funding opportunity will support multidisciplinary research to better understand the underlying causes and pathophysiology of diabetes, and to develop better diabetes prevention and treatment strategies.
The objectives are:
- To elucidate the previously undefined mechanisms that control the onset and progression of all types of diabetes mellitus and related complications and co-morbidities, taking into account sex as a biological variable and gender as a socio-cultural determinant of health.
- To develop translational solutions aimed at prevention, treatment, and the delivery of care for people living with diabetes
Program eligibility: special feature
In addition to complying with the FRQ Common General Rules to be eligible for the program, eligible Quebec researchers wishing to submit an application to CIHR must: be a member of the CMDO network (Cardiometabolic health, diabetes and obesity research network).
To become a member of this inclusive network, you need to :
have a researcher status affiliated to a University / Institute or a Quebec research centre recognized by the FRQS ;
be active in the fields of cardiometabolic health, diabetes or obesity.

You must be or become a member of the network to be eligible for this collaborative program. Researchers will be responsible for joining the network or validating their status with the CMDO.
No electronic form to join the CMDO network will be accepted by the FRQS. Please contact CMDO representative for any questions.
No form or document is to be sent to the FRQS as part of this collaborative program. All additional requests and documents for the program must be submitted to CIHR according to their procedure on ResearchNet portal.
A detailed budget will be requested from Quebec researchers selected during the granting procedure.
N.B. Eligibility for the program will be jointly coordinated between the CIHR and the FRQS for all Quebec researchers wishing to apply. In addition, the FRQS will ensure with the CMDO network that participants are eligible as members of the network.
