Montréal, July 8, 2021 – Another prestigious position has been added to the already impressive list of accomplishments of Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Québec, as he takes over as president of the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA). Quirion becomes the first French-speaking president of this organization, which has more than 5,000 members in some 110 countries. Québec will be showcased on the international stage with this appointment of an eminent representative of its scientific community.
Rémi Quirion’s two-year term as president will allow him to pursue the mandate established when he co-founded INGSA, namely to facilitate and promote government science advice at the international level: an important function of science diplomacy. The COVID-19 pandemic has confirmed the need for science advice for elected officials at global, national, regional and local levels. Quirion attaches great importance to French-language research and its dissemination and intends to continue his efforts for its promotion, particularly in French-speaking European countries and francophone Africa. Under his leadership, Montréal will host the 4th edition of the INGSA Conference from August 29 to September 2, the last day of which will be devoted to science advice in the French-speaking world.

Rémi Quirion is the chief executive officer of the Fonds de recherche du Québec and represents the interests of science and research in several forums across Québec, in Canada and abroad. He has been Chief Scientist of Québec since September 1, 2011.
