Abstract

What do lossless power transmission, floating bullet trains and affordable magnetic resonance imaging instruments have in common? Unconventional superconductivity: a family of states of matter that is still poorly understood, even by experts. Strontium ruthenate—the most promising archetypical example—remains a topic of debate after 25 years and contradicts all accepted theories. Olivier Gingras’ article provides an overview of the theoretical discovery of two new potential states that broadens the spectrum of possible explanations and gives way to new discussions.
