An EDI strategy to strengthen research excellence in Québec
Québec, July 19, 2021 – Today, the Fonds de recherche du Québec are launching their equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy, which was adopted by the boards of directors of the three Fonds in June 2021. The approach is in line with the agencies’ commitment to strengthen EDI, as outlined in their 2018–2022 plans.
Equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to achieving excellence and the full potential of the research ecosystem. They enrich the research community, as well as the quality, relevance and benefits of the work that is generated. With this strategy, the Fonds hope to contribute to making Québec’s research ecosystem an EDI leader.
The strategy stems from joint discussions between the three Fonds—Nature et technologies, Santé, Société et culture—as well as the work of a special committee of members of the three boards of directors and a consultation with partner organizations and EDI experts in Québec, Canada and abroad. It presents the principles that guide the EDI efforts of the Fonds, their 2026 objectives and the actions that will be set in motion to attain them.
“In recent years, the Fonds have hosted various events, including a forum on diversity in scientific conferences, and implemented a number of measures to foster more equity, diversity and inclusion in research. Recognizing their role within Québec’s ecosystem and seeking to take greater account of EDI in every aspect of their work, the Fonds are formalizing their EDI commitment with this strategy. I am convinced it will boost the excellence of the research conducted in Québec for the greater good of our society.”
