April 27, 2023 – At its April 12, 2023, meeting, the board of directors of the Fonds de recherche du Québec — Nature et technologies (FRQNT) approved $75.3 million in awards and grants (new awards and commitments) for 2023-2024.

As announced on April 27, the FRQNT is handing out 621 new awards this year: 249 new master’s scholarships, 321 new doctoral scholarships and 51 new postdoctoral scholarships, for a total of $16.8 million for 2023–2024.

This amount will be added to the FRQS’s previous commitments, totalling $26.7 million in support for research training through scholarship and internship programs.

As for its programs supporting new academics and college researchers, 40 research proposals are slated for more than $3.7 million in funding by the FRQNT to support careers in research (new awards and commitments).
With regard to research projects and groups, the FRQNT will invest a total of $44.9 million this year, including $21.1 million to fund 34 strategic clusters, AGORA platforms, innovation networks and innovation catalysts (college-university clusters) and $23.8 million for research projects (e.g., Teams) and international initiatives.

In addition, the FRQNT will contribute $5.4 million to initiatives to tackle major societal challenges: sustainable development and the impacts of climate change and digital technologies, demographic change and ageing, entrepreneurship and creativity, and a fourth new science and society component. This includes not only new funding awards, but also applications the FRQNT had already committed to funding.
